Large Intestine The large intestine is the lower portion of the digestive system and is responsible for the resorption of water and electrolytes, the manufacture of vitamin K, and the formation and expulsion of waste from the body. The large intestine is a large muscular tube about 5 feet long that is located between the small intestine and anus. Also called the colon.
