Gastric Bypass Surgery Gastric Bypass Surgery is a non-reversible bariatric (weight loss) surgery procedure that helps a person lose weight thru both restrictive and malabsorptive methods. With gastric bypass, the stomach is made smaller and then attached to the middle portion of the small intestine. A smaller stomach allows less food to be eaten at any one time and bypassing the upper part of the small intestine allows less food to be absorbed by the body.
