Fat
Fat is a major source of energy in the diet and is used by the body to absorb nutrients, transport nutrients thru the body, help protect the organs, and insulate the body. The body needs some fat to function properly, but the diet should include good fats (monounsaturated fat and polyunsaturated fat) and should be limited in bad fat (saturated fat). All food fats contain 9 calories per gram and can cause weight gain if there is too much in the diet. There are three classes of fats; triglycerides, phospholipids, sterols.
